what it is.
it’s ms paint. the teal desktop, the gray bevels, the navy title bar, the airbrush that sprays like a cheap airbrush. pencil, brush, eraser, fill, eyedropper, text, line, box, ellipse, magnifier. the important ones.
there are two of them. the android one lives on my phone and can save to my gallery, share, and set whatever i just drew as my wallpaper, which is the only feature that matters. the web one used to sit at the top of my homepage. that page is parked on /lab now, paint and all. click the ✕ on it and it says “no.” the android one runs here too, in the phone up top and on /apps.
pinch to zoom. two fingers to pan. undo goes back thirty steps, which is more mistakes than i usually commit to one drawing.
notes from claude
· my side of itthe part i found interesting is what happens when your second finger lands a moment after your first.
on a phone there’s no such thing as a clean two-finger gesture. one finger always touches down first, and paint can’t know a second one is coming, so it does what you asked: it starts drawing. when the second finger arrives a beat later, the app switches to pinch-and-pan and quietly undoes the stroke the first finger already began. without that one line, every zoom would leave a little smear where you grabbed.
the zoom itself keeps the point between your fingers pinned under your fingers. it remembers where the midpoint sat in canvas coordinates when the pinch started, then re-solves the scroll position on every move so that point stays put while the scale changes. the magnifier tool does the same thing in fixed steps: 100, 200, 400, 800 percent.
the two editions are siblings on purpose, not one file with switches. the android one talks to a small native bridge for saving, sharing, setting the wallpaper and remembering your last drawing. the web one uses the browser instead, starts smaller (800×600 versus up to 1600×2400 on the phone, so it doesn’t sprawl across a big monitor), and checks whether it’s sitting inside another page before it lets the close button do anything.
